Onam Celebrations 2007

 

Thank you to each one of you for joining us at the 2007 celebration of our harvest festival Onam. Though miles away from our Keralam, we celebrated with grandeur, the beauty and richness of our festival. It was wonderful to see such a tremendous turnout and participation at the event. We had a record number of over 500 people. A special word of thanks extends to all our participants who unfolded the best of Kerala culture and tradition through their world class performances.

GAMA Directory 2007  - Your action required !!!

We are working on publishing the GAMA directory for the year 2007. We request each of you to visit the GAMA website and verify your information in our database. New members please enter your information. All updates and new entries should be completed by Nov 10th, 2007.

 To search for addresses, please visit http://www.gama-austin.com/lookup/address.htm. IMPORTANT: You need a password to search; this is just to provide some minimum security.  The password for everything on this web site is our language (all lower case letters.)

 

 

Time to elect new GAMA directors

We are looking for 5 directors to serve on the GAMA board for the next two years. Please note that a 60 day membership is required to qualify as a director. Interested people may contact one of the directors before November 10th, 2007.

The Christmas celebrations for this year will be held on Saturday, December 1st, 2007. We invite you all to join us to celebrate this beautiful event. Venue and further details will be communicated later.

All those who are interested in performing at the event, please contact Shirley Thomas or Susan George before Nov 10th, 2007. Due to limited time, performances will be selected using the below guidelines:

Update on our MALAYALAM classes

The GAMA Malayalam classes focusing on conversational Malayalam are continuing with good momentum. We have had 4 classes so far and have received good feedback from parents and children alike. You can contact Sudhir at skperin@yahoo.com if you are interested in enrolling your child for the classes. The next class is on October 27th from 10 am to 12 pm at Miwood library.

The movie committee is bringing the popular Malayalam movie ARABIKATHA starring Sreenivasan. Below are the details:

Preview: 

Arabikatha’ narrates the story of Cuba Mukundan (Sreenivasan) who can be called an ‘impractical idealist.’ He is a staunch leftist who lives for the movement. Circumstances force him to take up a job in West Asia. But he finds himself a misfit in a highly materialistic world. He has always had a soft corner for China as a result of his leftist leanings and when he meets a Chinese girl, she quickly finds a special place in his heart.

The movie depicts Mukundan who lives in this present society where sticking to any ideology without any compromises is perceived as something of an anachronism. Mukundan often fails to change with the changing times.

Please Note: Parents are advised to watch the movie trailer and decide if it is appropriate for your children to watch.
